The Iris Palace is the seat of the House of Vedoys and the Principality of Besançon, and is the home of King Frédéric IV.

Construction began in 1689 and was not completed until 1694. It was constructed to replace Castle Vedoys, which was destroyed during the Marquetien Civil War. It has served as the private residence to Vedoys princes and various other members of the House of Vedoys since its construction.

The palace is named for its interior design, which overhwelmingly features the color blue throughout. It has been renovated three times: in 1874, in 1932, and in 2009.
